time moves in strange ways for me. the hours feel slow but the days fly by. much of my time is repetitive and unremarkable, but suddenly i’m twenty years older. my health has been stuck on a plateau for a while. the first part of this year was pretty harsh, but things have at least steadied in recent months. no medical miracles in sight, but i’m always on the lookout.
after months of feeling aimless, i decided to make a new record. not a full album this time, but an EP with four or five songs. after deciding this, my days have become a bit more purposeful. i work on mixing tracks and getting artwork together. will the record come out this year or next? i’m not sure yet, but i’m finishing it as soon as i can.

that’s a pretty nice monitor.
i recently got a big new monitor, which has been a huge improvement to my workflow. it’s much easier to edit audio without having to squint to see the waveforms.
i also got a new little keyboard. it’s called the orchid, made by telepathic instruments, which (for better or for worse) is affiliated with tame impala. it makes it easy to try out different chord progressions very quickly. i haven’t decided yet if it’s super useful or just very well-marketed. possibly both?

sitting on the porch making melodies.
i’ve been listening to a lot of elliott smith lately. his music is so much cooler than i have ever been. and that’s okay! it’s just different. i bring what i bring to the table. he brought what he brought. (but dang, it would be nice to be cool like that.)
in any case, i should probably get back to mixing. more updates soon!
best,
rye
