Falling Forward

is summer over already?

i can’t say i experienced much of it this year. i was mostly indoors, mostly dealing with migraines. i haven’t exactly broken out of that migraine cycle yet, and my apartment building’s recent fire alarm tests haven’t helped.

somehow, i’ve managed to keep working on prepping this new record for release in spite of all that. i just approved the final masters, which sound fantastic. i’ll be pressing it to cassette and releasing it in february, but in the meantime, there’s still plenty left to do. i need nice photos of myself for press, i need music videos, i need various bits of content for social media. i may even run a few ads.

taking decent pictures of myself has proven a bit challenging, as some part of the process seems to trigger cfs crashes. it doesn’t feel like i’m doing too much, and i can’t seem to pin down what aspect is the problem, which is pretty unusual for me (i typically know what went wrong when i get hit with a cfs flare up). in any case, i likely have enough photos by now and just need to edit a few good ones.

i haven’t been listening to much, given all the headaches. mainly i’ve been playing a video game called black myth wukong. it’s gorgeous and extremely challenging but fun. the story is drawn from classic chinese literature, and it’s filled with wild supernatural beings. i think i’ve put about 100 hours into the game, which is a pretty solid marker of quality. but why can i play video games with a migraine, when movies and books and music are too much? frankly, i don’t know. my cfs should also prevent me from being able to play countless hours of video games, considering the way movies and music quickly exhaust me. it truly does not make sense, but it is what it is. for now, i’m just grateful to have something i can do without painful consequences.

here’s hoping fall holds fewer headaches…

warmly,
rye
