An Unending Headache

Hello Friend—

For the past 45 days, I’ve had one continuous migraine. Yes, a singular nonstop headache. It keeps me from my Patreon, my music, my friends, and my family. It sucks!

I’ve tried: multiple IV infusions, various acupuncture treatments, and a variety of pills and supplements; American, Chinese, and Tibetan medicine; neurologists, acupuncturists, and integrative doctors. Jews, Christians, and Buddhists are praying for me. I have an appointment at Philadelphia’s Jefferson Headache Center (where I previously endured some hellish inpatient treatments) next month. We’re doing everything imaginable to treat this thing.

Getting infusions at a clinic in McLean, VA.

It’s pretty wild, considering I hardly had any headaches at all last year. Maybe five, tops. Qulipta was a miracle drug for me until it abruptly stopped working in January. I tried cycling off of it for a month, but that didn’t help. We recently layered some Botox therapy on top of the Qulipta and are hoping the two treatments somehow synergistically kick my migraine’s ass in the very near future. Fingers crossed!

All of this is happening while we search for a new place to live. We’ll be renting out our house and moving into an apartment soon (possibly even next month?), in hopes that my health will improve if I get away from my current situation. Without getting too deep into it, some of my doctors think I may be reacting to something in my house, so we’re going to try moving to some place new.

For various reasons, we’ll have to get rid of a lot of our belongings when we move. I’ll probably be selling some of my music gear (if you want some, let me know). It’s going to be a real change.

In the meantime, I’m still trying to get through each day. I’ve been watching a revolution unfold on Andor, a hilarious satire of Hollywood on The Studio, and a strange, supernatural drama on Hellbound (as well as rewatching The OA, a legendary scifi/fantasy mystery that was unfairly cancelled in 2019). I’ve been listening to the noise rock comeback of Mclusky, the haunting, heady hip-hop of billy woods, and the moody, dreamy pop of Kali Uchis. What about you? Heard or seen anything interesting lately?

I am still gradually working on my own music, when health allows. I’m recording old tracks and writing new ones. I’m getting talented friends to add instrumentals to my songs and staying up late to rewrite my lyrics. In other words, I’m still doing the damn thing.

As always, I am endlessly grateful for your support. With everything going on, it’s incredible to have the financial and emotional resources that you provide. I can’t thank you enough!

‘Til next time…

Warmly,
Rye
