Still Life

Friend—

The holiday season has so far been eventful yet uneventful for me.

A few weeks ago, I went to Philadelphia to get infused with ketamine for 5 nights straight. It was supposed to help with migraines and possibly even with some of my fatigue. However, my headaches dramatically improved on their own in the weeks leading up to the treatment, so I’m not sure if the treatment did anything. Hopefully, it will reinforce and extend this good period for my headaches. In general, I feel pretty much the same as I felt before I went, so I can’t really say what it did with any confidence!

Looking at my phone while the sun sets on my hospital bed.

The experience itself was mildly amusing. I felt slightly buzzed by the drugs, but I didn’t hallucinate or have any wild psychedelic sojourns. Mostly, I just felt less-than-sober.

My constant ketamine drip.

During Thanksgiving, I kept to myself to avoid CFS flare-ups. I still can’t really handle most social events. My birthday is coming up, and I don’t expect I’ll have a party or anything, for the same reason.

I am still working on some instrumental guitar music with my friend Jamie. We’ve recorded a few improvisation sessions and might actually try to turn some of the improvised bits into actual compositions. We’re figuring it out as we go!

I’m hoping that I’ll start to see some benefits in the next few months from the apartment move and the various treatments I’ve been doing. Nothing much has changed so far, but perhaps in early 2026 we’ll see some improvements.

It’s been another good year for music overall. I can’t stop listening to the album Getting Killed by the band Geese. I also really love the recent album Lux by Rosalía. It’s worth checking out 2025 releases from Clipse, Baths, Lorde, Lucy Dacus, Black Eyes, Little Simz, Horse Lords, and Perfume Genius too.

I’m grateful as always for your support, and hopefully I’ll have more interesting updates to share in the near future!
